Portrait of Mr. Dante Macy, Music Department Head at Ridgeview Classical Schools

Mr. Macy grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, graduating from The Classical Academy. From there, he received his Bachelor's in Music Education with honors from the University of Northern Colorado, specializing in classical voice and choral pedagogy. While at UNC, Mr. Macy received several awards in conducting, worked as the Tutoring Center's only music tutor, and co-directed a student-run a cappella group. He is currently pursuing a Master's in Music Education through CSU, with an emphasis in conducting choir, band, and orchestra. As a chorister, Mr. Macy has performed both in the states and internationally.

Since coming to Ridgeview, Mr. Macy has taught choirs, orchestras, musical theater and general music classes. He has also served as music director for six of Ridgeview's musicals and looks forward to many more. He also revitalized the Jazz Choir, which specializes in jazz and contemporary choral music. Mr. Macy's areas of specialty are choral pedagogy (specifically vocal pedagogy and music literacy), jazz theory and style, and musical theater. Mr. Macy has also served as the Music Department Head since 2023. 

Outside of school, Mr. Macy reads constantly (mainly history or science fiction), composes music, writes, and plays chess. 

Q & A with Mr. Macy

Where were you born and where have you lived?
I was born in Chicago, IL. I lived in Colorado Springs for most of my life, from the time I was eight until moving to Fort Collins.


Where did you attend university or college?

I studied Music Education at the University of Northern Colorado.

What kind of reading do you most enjoy doing?
I read mostly nonfiction, on just about any topic. When I read fiction, I usually gravitate to sci-fi. Poetry is also a personal favorite.

What are the small essentials that make life more comfortable?
Regular daily rhythms of rest and quiet time.

What are your favorite snacks
I love peanut butter filled pretzels and popcorn.

What do you do to unwind?
I love to play chess, work out, or go visit a friend for a while.
