Portrait of Mr. Dante Macy, Music Department Head at Ridgeview Classical Schools

Mr. Macy is the choral director and music department head at Ridgeview. He also serves as music director for Ridgeview’s theater productions. Mr. Macy has taught music history, music theory, choirs, orchestras, and courses on musical theater. His areas of specialty are choral pedagogy, jazz styles, and musical theater. Mr. Macy has a Master’s in Music Education and Conducting from Colorado State University and his Bachelor’s of Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado. 

As a graduate of a classical high school, Mr. Macy has long had a passion for classical education, a passion that first led him to Ridgeview. Outside of school, Mr. Macy is an avid reader (mainly history and science fiction), composes music, writes, and plays chess. 

Q & A with Mr. Macy

Where were you born and where have you lived?
I was born in Chicago, IL. I lived in Colorado Springs for most of my life, from the time I was eight until moving to Fort Collins.


Where did you attend university or college?
I have a Master’s in Music Ed. and Conducting from CSU and my Bachelor’s in Music Ed. from UNC.

What kind of reading do you most enjoy doing?
I read mostly nonfiction, on just about any topic. When I read fiction, I usually gravitate to sci-fi. Poetry is also a personal favorite.

What are the small essentials that make life more comfortable?
Regular daily rhythms of rest and quiet time. Also a high quality journal makes any day better!

What are your favorite snacks
I love Popcorners (kettle corn or sea salt) and peanut butter filled pretzels.

What do you do to unwind?
I love to play chess, work out, or go visit a friend for a while.
