The Arts

  • Strings clubs are available for beginning students, as well as students with some introductory strings experience who are beginning to develop their music-reading skills.

    Details:

  • Art Club gives students the chance to explore a variety of artistic mediums, from painting and drawing to mixed media. Students will experiment, create, and build confidence through hands-on projects.

  • Cross Stitch Club will meet on Wednesdays from 3:40-4:40. We welcome all levels from beginner to advanced to join!

  • 9th - 12th graders are invited to audition for our fall play, Stage Fright. Stage Fright consists of three one-act plays. Auditions will be held August 25 & 26, more information will be posted in the music hallway.

  • The Fine Arts Crew builds sets for the fine arts productions, manages set changes, and generally assists Mr. Binder with production needs. The Fine Arts Crew also assists with Music Departments shows.

  • Grace Notes is an after-school elementary choir directed by Mrs. Nichols. It is open to students in grades 2-4 who love to sing! A simple audition is required.

  • Jazz Band is an audition-based ensemble for strong, academically eligible high school instrumentalists who want to take their playing to the next level. The group explores the exciting world of jazz, rehearsing and performing music from the jazz repertoire and bringing it to life at the Winter and Spring concerts in December and April.

    Jazz Band members should be organized, self-motivated, and ready to put in some practice time at home. Strong sight-reading and rhythm skills are important, and students will have opportunities to step into the spotlight with both written and improvised solos.

    Never played jazz before? No problem! You do not need to know jazz techniques to audition, although having some familiarity with what jazz sounds like will definitely help. Most importantly, come ready to listen, learn, play, and have fun.

  • The Jazz Choir Club is an advanced, mixed vocal ensemble specializing in vocal jazz and contemporary vocal music. The club performs with the other RCS choirs at their concerts. The club meets during 2nd lunch and Chambers once a week. Audition required. This ensemble is only available to students already enrolled in the High School Choir. If this requirement does not work with your schedule, contact the club instructor, Mr. Macy.

STEM

  • Chessmates is a fully instructional club that takes place weekly. ChessMates sends chess coaches to give a lesson and then allow players to play matches with peers with their support and guidance as needed. There are two groups split by grade, K-2 and 3-6.

  • Upper school students participate in First Tech Challenge and learn to think like engineers. Teams will design, build, and code robots to accomplish tasks and compete against other teams.

  • Ridgeview's High School Science Bowl club involves weekly practices in preparation for the DOE National Science Bowl® competition. The Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics. Teams face-off in a fast-paced question-and-answer format, being tested on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and math.

  • Lego Robotics is open to 5th & 6th grade students through an application process. Students work as a team to design and code a robot, inspiring creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.

    INTERESTED STUDENTS SHOULD ATTEND THE INFO MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 28 at 3:30pm.

  • Open to students in grades 6-8, this club is a fun and engaging opportunity to sharpen your problem-solving skills, build confidence in mathematics, and compete in exciting local and national math contests (MathCounts, AMC and MOEMS). Whether you're already a math enthusiast or simply curious about challenging yourself, you'll work with friends, learn creative strategies, and discover that math is much more than what you see in the classroom.

  • Explore the Ancient World through engaging topics and hands-on projects! Students will dive into the food, politics, religion, warfare, art, and daily life of ancient civilizations while bringing what they learn to life through projects and activities.

  • An interactive club where students are introduced to French through songs, movement, coloring, and multimedia activities, supporting early vocabulary development and listening skills in a relaxed environment.

  • Students will submit poems, short stories, or chapters. We will read and discuss these submissions as a group. This club will emphasize appreciation and encouragement.

  • Come learn biblical Hebrew in a fun and supportive environment! This club starts on October 21st.

  • Creative writing club for 4th-6th graders. Each meeting will have time for writing and sharing one's work with a positive and supportive audience.

  • Upper school students that join this club will provide tutoring for elementary students in math, Riggs, and composition.  Any student wanting to tutor will need to attend training sessions in both math and Riggs.

Other Clubs

  • Climbing Club helps students build strength, technique, and confidence through bouldering. Bouldering is a discipline of climbing short (8-15 feet) “problems”. Students in Grades 7–12 will learn movement, footwork, problem-solving, safety, and climbing technique while progressing from the basics to more advanced skills. No experience or equipment is needed!

    Details:

  • Craft-A-Change combines creativity, entrepreneurship, and service. Students will meet weekly to design and create handmade crafts to sell at bi-monthly sales. Together, students will choose a nonprofit organization to support and donate their proceeds to a cause that matters to them.

  • Hoplite Helpers is a student led organization for students in 7th & 8th grades. Involved members learn to build character and leadership skills through community service.

  • Key Club is a student led organization for students in grades 9-12. Involved members learn to build character and leadership skills through community service.

  • Students will learn about firearm safety and the fundamentals of shooting. Applications are due at the front office by September 11th. Download the application.

  • Mock Trial is a student court-room drama for students. There are elements of argumentation, acting, forensic oratory, and sleuthing.

  • Historical wargaming involves reenacting battles, campaigns, and even entire wars from the past in the format of a board game.  These games can exactly replicate the conditions of conflict (terrain, armies with their strengths and weaknesses, economic and political conditions) of actual battles as well as present opportunities for playing out “what-if” scenarios – changing history! The RCS Wargaming Club will explore both reenacting an actual conflict (such as battles like Gettysburg or Waterloo and many, many others) as well as the possible scenarios that did not actually occur (like the Cold War turning hot in Europe or the German invasion of Britian in 1940).
