OUTDOOR LEARNING

At Ridgeview, our Outdoor Education program aims to introduce every student to the outdoors, teach them to independently manage their personal gear needs while outdoors, and work to preserve the natural enthusiasm that many children show for the outdoors. Students are encouraged to learn alongside their parents and faculty chaperones.

PART-TIME KINDERGARTEN

Ridgeview Classical Schools offers a part-time kindergarten program, with students attending school for half of the week. This model is designed to support family life, allowing young children to spend significant time at home while still building a strong academic foundation. By partnering with parents during these early years, Ridgeview creates a balanced approach to education that values both classroom learning and time with family.

LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION

At Ridgeview Classical Schools, students are introduced to Latin and Greek in elementary school as part of a classical approach to education. These languages provide the foundation for much of the English language and academic vocabulary. By studying Latin and Greek, students strengthen their understanding of word structure, improve reading comprehension, and develop the ability to learn new words more easily across all subjects.

PHONICS-BASED READING

At Ridgeview Classical Schools, reading instruction is grounded in a phonics-based approach. Students are explicitly taught how letters and sounds work together, giving them the tools to decode unfamiliar words independently. This structured method builds strong, confident readers who are not reliant on memorization or guessing, and who can continue to grow as texts become more complex.

CHARACTER EDUCATION

Our students begin learning about the Character Pillars in Kindergarten. Discussions about citizenship, cooperation, responsibility, integrity, respect, perseverance, and courage figure into a variety of lessons throughout the Ridgeview academic journey.

ABILITY-GROUPED MATH

Ridgeview uses the Singapore Math for mathematics instruction. Singapore Math helps to develop a deep conceptual understanding, strong problem-solving skills, and mathematical confidence. Beginning in the elementary grades, our students are ability grouped in mathematics to allow them to work at the highest level at which they can succeed.

CURSIVE PENMANSHIP

At Ridgeview Classical Schools, students are taught cursive writing as part of a traditional, skills-based curriculum. We believe cursive supports fine motor development, reading fluency, and cognitive connection in ways that typing alone cannot. By learning cursive, students gain the ability to read historical documents, take efficient notes, and develop a deeper connection to written language.

6TH GRADE CAMP

Sixth Grade begins with community at Ridgeview. incorporates new students into the outdoor program. 6th grade camp is designed to help students build friendships, develop confidence, and feel a strong sense of belonging before the academic year begins. Through shared experiences and guided activities, students form meaningful connections that support both their social and academic success throughout the year.

KNOWLEDGE COMPETITIONS

Ridgeview students regularly participate in academic competitions that reinforce critical thinking, knowledge retention, and intellectual curiosity. Elementary students show off their knowledge by participating friendly competitions in the annual Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Young Aristotle (a Classics competition), and more!
