Mrs. Lane
Mrs Lane was born and educated in South-East Asia (she did a very early form of Singapore Math!) before moving to the United Kingdom for a pre-university course called 'A' levels and then doing a couple of degrees at the University of Kent. She obtained her Bachelors degree and a Postgraduate degree in Actuarial Science at University of Kent, UK. She also obtained a teaching degree in Mathematics from University of Nottingham, UK.
She spent 25 years in the UK which included working there as a teacher for 17 years before moving to the USA. During her time as a teacher abroad, she taught in a wide variety of schools- all boys, all girls, mixed schools, large public schools, highly selective top performing private schools and an inner city school in a deprived area. She has helped students with the full range of how to add and subtract to teaching students preparing for Mathematics degrees at Oxford and Cambridge.
She visited Ridgeview a couple of years ago and liked the warm, friendly atmosphere here. She is thrilled that her first teaching role in the USA is at Ridgeview and has been enjoying learning about the American school system and getting to know her students. She finds the Ridgeview students among the most charming, curious and motivated students she has ever worked with.
While at Ridgeview, she has taught classes at Middle and High school level including Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 , Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus. She also has experience teaching Statistics, Mechanics and Calculus in the UK. She currently runs the Math Club at Ridgeview with Dr. Malluwawadu and encourages our students to participate in interschool Math competitions such as MOEMS and MathCounts. Mrs Lane is impressed with the quality of trips available for students to participate in and looks forward to her first skiing trip with Ridgeview soon.
She loves reading and solving Math puzzles and gets way too excited about solving The Times Newspaper extreme sudokus. She is a huge fan of period dramas and welcomes anyone chatting to her about this.
