Cross Country Season Recap 2023
The Hoplites debuted their season at the local John Martin Middle School Invitational on August 26. They had a strong start to their season on this mostly paved raceway and hit marks that would be hard to beat throughout the season. Our top girl finishers were Eliza C. and Elin B. The first to cross the finish line for the boys was Maximus P., followed by Van M. and Blake C. These two driven fifth graders set a goal to compete with the varsity athletes in their first season of running.
For the next several weeks the Hoplites battled hot temperatures and hilly courses. Many were clocking slower times because of these challenges but did not lose sight of their goals and continued to dig deep during practices and meets. At the end of September the Hoplites faced many of their NCIL opponents at the Long’s Peak Invitational hosted on the Lake Estes 9-hole Golf Course. Several large schools that had the fortune to train at altitude completed in this meet. We were tremendously impressed with the Ridgeview boys’ 6th place finish, and the girls 7th place finish. Ethan M., William H., Hannah B., and Lauren V. all ran their best races!
Ridgeview completed their regular season at the Runner’s Roost Invitational Maximus P. finished 25th and Thomas R. 26th out of 243. The first Lady Hoplite to cross was Carly H. and she finished 64th of out 256. The following week the Hoplites observed fall break, but an eager student wanted the opportunity to compete against his league to see how he stacked up. Congratulations to Maximus P. on your 5th place finish with a time of 14:35.50.
