Parent Volunteer Informational Evening

The more usual approach we undertake at Ridgeview is to apprise parents as to the state of things at the end of the year in a State-of-the-School Address. In the recent past, when there has not been a board election, there has tended to not be an address since the two generally accompany one another.

Without wanting to give the indication that we are content or have grown complacent, there are no alarm bells to be rung—neither doom on the horizon nor terrible portents. Instead, what I should like to have discussed with our community in these missed addresses is the state of our cultural affairs as they relate to parent volunteerism and student welfare. The two, I contend, are closely related. The more volunteerism, the healthier and more involved our community; the tighter knit our community, the better able Ridgeview is to serve our students. It’s an ecosystem of sorts.

I could go on and on, and I would very much like to in hopes of encouraging you to volunteer. I should like to tell you that without your participation in this charter school, we all compromise the autonomy we not long ago had to fight quite hard for. If we want for Ridgeview to continue to be genuinely different from the many alternatives, (and we should be glad that there are alternatives even if we prefer Ridgeview to them), we must militate against the “stop-and-drop” mentality that prevails elsewhere.

This is the reason for my calling for an unprecedented meeting. While I am happy to explain why I believe this is so important in a Headmaster’s Coffee (the next one will be on September 6 at 8:15am), I think this merits more time, more dialogue, and more consideration. Therefore, I am asking for you to give me an hour or so to make my case on September 9 at 6pm in the PAC.

I hope to see you there, and I hope that by our coming together, Ridgeview will continue to thrive and offer our students the very best that education can give.

Sincerely,

D. Anderson
Headmaster
