Mrs. Van Dixhorn, Fifth Grade Faculty

Mrs. Van Dixhorn grew up in Wisconsin and received her secondary education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Wisconsin Lutheran College. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Wisconsin Lutheran College and then earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Carroll University. She worked as an outpatient orthopaedic therapist for ten years before pursuing a career in teaching.

A Ridgeview parent herself, Mrs. Van Dixhorn saw firsthand the many benefits of a classical education in her own children before transitioning to the teaching profession. Since joining Ridgeview, she has taught Fifth Grade and enjoys attending Valborg, chaperoning outdoor trips, and using her background in physical therapy to support fitness and wellness initiatives throughout the school.

Mrs. Van Dixhorn loves teaching in a classical school because it cultivates both wisdom and virtue in students by encouraging them to think deeply, communicate clearly, and act with integrity. She especially appreciates how classical education reveals the timeless connections between subjects: how Latin roots deepen understanding of vocabulary and scientific terms (binomial nomenclature), how grammar sharpens clear expression (add an adjective!), and how great works of literature, such as A Little Princess, illuminate the enduring human story. These connections make learning meaningful and inspire students to see the beauty and purpose woven throughout their studies.

Outside the classroom, Mrs. Van Dixhorn enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and playing tennis. Her favorite books include The Bible, The Count of Monte Cristo, Anne of Green Gables, works by C.S. Lewis, and the entire Nancy Drew series.
