Mr. Walz grew up in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 2019, specializing in both vocal and instrumental music instruction. A connoisseur of the performing arts, Mr. Walz has not only taught and directed band, orchestra, choir, and theater at the middle and high school level, but also has performed regularly with Loveland Opera Theatre, Opera Fort Collins, and the Boulder Symphony as a classical vocalist. His musical interests include opera, German lieder, and the traditional folk music of Ireland and Scotland.  

Since joining the faculty in 2023 as the Band Director, Mr. Walz has directed the 5th and 6th grade Beginning Bands, the Intermediate Band, and the Concert Band at Ridgeview, in addition to the High School Jazz Band Club. He also teaches Core Music at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels, and has taught History of Film Music during the Trinity term.

Where are you from and where have you lived? 

    I grew up in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I currently live in Loveland.

Where did you attend college or university? 

    I have my bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Northern Colorado.

What kind of reading do you enjoy most? 

    I enjoy historical readings, as well as play-scripts. Anything else needs to lean heavily into comedy for me to like it.

What are the small essentials that make life more comfortable? 

    A cozy place to relax and someone to share it with.

What are your favorite snacks? 

    Salted almonds, m&m's, almond joys

What do you do to unwind? 

    I surround myself in various other performing arts activities such as singing, dancing, and accordion.

How could a parent volunteer help you the most? 

    Assisting with concerts and performances.

Why have you chosen to teach at Ridgeview specifically?

    The mission of the school aligns with the goals that I have for my students.
