Miss Gary, Art TA

Miss Gary was born in North Texas and spent most of her life in Louisiana. She received her BA in Studio Art from Centenary College of Louisiana in 2023, focusing much of her work on the American West and the interactions between people and nature. Ever since she was a child, she had dreamt of living in Colorado near the mountains where her mother grew up. In 2024, those dreams came true, and she moved to Fort Collins where she now enjoys the outdoor life the area has to offer. Miss Gary loves any opportunity to go fishing, hiking, or hammocking. Most of her work experience is within art galleries and museums, helping to host tours and curate exhibitions. She decided to test the waters in education and has fallen in love with Ridgeview Classical Schools and the rigorous yet exciting curricula they offer.

Working as the Art/Floating Teaching Assistant, Miss Gary can dabble in helping to teach all grades, which keeps her work entertaining. She particularly likes working with lower elementary and teaching the middle schoolers new techniques involving charcoal (her favorite medium) and painting. She enjoys sharing critiques with the students, helping them garner their skills and feel more confident with the art they create.

Q & A with Miss Gary

Where were you born and where have you lived?
I was born in North Texas and lived in a small town called Bartonville. My family moved to Northwest Louisiana when I was in elementary school, and I stayed in Shreveport until moving to Fort Collins.

Where did you attend university or college?
I received my BA in studio art in 2023 from Centenary College of Louisiana. Fun fact… Centenary is the oldest college west of the Mississippi River!

What kind of reading do you most enjoy doing?
I’ve always enjoyed reading poetry, but I also love mysteries and thrillers.

What are the small essentials that make life more comfortable?
I can count on hot cocoa with a mound of marshmallows, a cozy blanket, my chunky cat, and my cuddle bug of a dog to make any day better.

What are your favorite snacks?
Pickled things, Zapp’s potato chips, popcorn, and any kind of fruit will always make me happy.

What do you do to unwind?
I love to cook and listen to my favorite music or watch a nostalgic movie. If the weather permits, nothing beats a long walk or a hike out in nature.

How could a parent volunteer help you most?
The colored pencils never stay sharpened for long! Any sort of help with sharpening pencils will always be much appreciated.
