Dr. Goldberg
Dr. Goldberg has been teaching a gamut of Earth Science courses since 2010. Originally from Brazil, she has a Bachelor's in Geology and a Master's in Sedimentary Geology from Brazilian universities, and a Ph.D. in Geophysical Sciences from the University of Chicago. She was a tenured professor in Brazil before returning to the U.S. in 2016 to work at Kansas State University, where she got tenured and worked for 8 years before moving to Colorado.
During her time as a university professor, Dr. Goldberg developed research in the fields of petroleum and environmental geology, supervised undergraduate and graduate students, and trained educators from high schools and community colleges in Earth Science. She moved to Colorado two years ago to accompany her husband as he got a new job. It was one of his work friends, a Ridgeview parent, who suggested she applied for a substitute teacher position at school, where she had the pleasure of teaching K-12 for the first time, while simultaneously teaching Geology courses at Aims Community College and managing her consultant business.
As Science Faculty at Ridgeview, Dr. Goldberg will teach Earth Science, Honors Chemistry and 7th-Grade Science.
Q & A with Dr. Goldberg
Where were you born and where have you lived?
I was born in Porto Alegre, southern Brazil. Besides my hometown, I have lived in the Amazon while I worked as a geologist for the Brazilian Geological Survey (that was an interesting experience!), in Chicago for 4 years while I got my PhD degree and in Kansas for 8 years before I moved to Colorado.
Where did you attend university or college?
I got both my Bachelor’s degree at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul and my Master’s degree at Unisinos in Brazil, and my PhD at the Department of Geophysical Sciences, University of Chicago, USA.
What kind of reading do you most enjoy doing?
I love non-fiction books about science, politics, economics and history. As for fiction books, they need to have a rich story and captivating, complex characters, as I get really bored with predictable, cliché writings. I do not have a genre per se, but I tend to gravitate toward thrillers and historical novels when I read fiction.
What are the small essentials that make life more comfortable?
A cup of coffee, a book, music and a cozy blanket.
What are your favorite snacks?
I am not a snacker. The only time I have snacks is when I go hiking. In that case, it is mostly nuts, trail mix, fruits, and/or granola/fruit bars.
What do you do to unwind?
Cook dinner with my husband while we catch up on the day’s events, water the flowers and vegetable garden, take a nice, warm shower and lounge with our cat on the couch while we read and/or watch a bit of TV.
How could a parent volunteer help you most?
I am not quite sure just yet.
